MISSION

The community of Our Savior’s Lutheran Church is dedicated to living out our calling in the world. We continue to seek new ways to do that by spreading the Gospel message through our actions and participation in the larger community of the Body of Christ. Our Savior’s understands that participation to be important in ways that include our care and support of many of God’s children. We are currently involved in the following ways:
- We work with a network of local churches organized through the IHELP program that provides shelter and food for a small group of homeless women
- We are united with the Lutheran coalition of churches that is working to build a house with Habitat for Humanity
- We have a continuing relationship with the Navajo Reservation in northern Arizona
- All three of our campuses work with needy families through the schools in their area, especially at Christmas time with the "Angel Tree" program
- We are also involved through or giving of our prayers and financial support to these and other fellow members of the Body of Christ
QUILTERS

Thursday mornings 8:30-11:30 in the East Mesa Campus Community Room. They meet all year long, averaging 8-12 women in the summer months and 25-30 in the high season.
The quilts they make (about 450+ each year) go to various hospitals and organizations including Mountain Vista Hospital where every baby born goes home with a quilt made with love. Other organizations that receive quilts include St Jude’s Hospital, East Valley Men’s center, Mesa Police Dept, Aris Children’s association, IHELP, Hospice, and a handful of others.
A special mission was started in 2010 called “The Little Angels” when one of the quilters responded to a newspaper article about abandoned babies. The article was asking for donations for baby blankets to insure proper burial for these “little angels”. The OSLC quilters took up the task and donated 49 baby quilts, with the promise to help as needed. Other donations go out on a fairly regular basis to members of the congregation for things like graduations, births, hospice, and honoring our veterans with patriotic quilts.
Once a year, usually in early November, some of the quilts go on sale to the congregation. These sales go to support missions (such as the sister quilting group in Guyana), and the rest goes to buy more materials.
This ministry is a staple in the identity of the congregation and is always looking for new members. Experience is not necessary and most of the work is done by hand with only one or two people operating the sewing machines.
All are welcome! If you are interested in this mission, and enjoy social conversation, feel free to show up.
